A downloadable game for Windows

This is a prototype showing the concept of applying voice recognition in the context of real-time tactics games.

You are the commander of an 80-man-strong company of good ol' redcoats. With their help, as well with the two allied (AI-controlled) companies to your left, you have the orders to advance and meet the enemy in front of you.

You can give your company the following orders:

  • "First company on my command": The first command you have to issue in order to address the company and make them listening to your following orders.
  • "Forward quick march" (can be seperated into a "forward" and "quick march" command: Makes the company advance in formation.
  • "Halt": Makes the company stop with whatever it is doing right now.
  • "Make ready": Makes the company prepare for firing a volley.
  • "Present": Makes the company aim.
  • "Fire": Makes the first two ranks of your company shoot their muskets.
  • "Reload": Well... it makes them reload.
  • "Left wheel": Rotates the entire formation to the left.
  • "Right wheel": Rotates the entire formation to the right.
  • "Turn left": Every soldier turns around 90 degrees on the spot.
  • "Turn right": Every soldier turns around 90 degrees on the spot.
  • "Form line:" The soldiers form up in a two-ranked line. Perfect for shooting enemies.
  • "Form column": The soldiers form a 5-file-column. Perfect for marching around.
  • "Fix bayonets" (can be seperated into a "fix" and "bayonets" command): Makes the soldiers fix bayonets.
  • "Unfix bayonets": Makes the soldiers remove their bayonets.
  • "Chaaaaarge!!!!!!!": Makes the soldiers charge at the enemy.
  • "Fallback": Makes the soldiers retreat for 10 seconds and then regroup. Ideal when being charged by a stronger enemy.

UI:

  • The number next to the soldier icon shows how many soldiers are currently alive in your company.
  • The right bar on your UI shows your company's morale. It gets reduced by suffering casualties and being under fire. When morale hits zero, your company flees and the battle is lost. Your goal should be to bring the enemies' morale to zero.
  • The left bar on your UI shows your company's stamina, it drains when charging or retreating and refills when idle. Having low stamina affects speed, effectiveness in combat and morale.

In this battle, your goal is to defeat the 3 enemy companies (the blue guys), which are a few hundred meters right in front of you. In the beginning, you can just copy the actions of your allied companies (the red guys) to learn the battle mechanics.

The voice recognition is quite simple and can almost only detect the commands above. To ensure that the software understands you, be sure to say the commands loud and clear and make sure not to bring other words into the commands (e.g., neither say "everybody form line" instead of "form line" nor "fire fire fire" instead of "fire"). Leave at least a second of silence before and after issuing the command.

The game is currently far from bug-free or nice to look at, but I plan on continuing to work on it, with small improvements and VR-support in the near future, cannons and cavalry in the distant future and a multiplayer in mind.
